Michael E. Shade, CFA

President & Portfolio Manager

Michael joined The de Burlo Group in 2011 as a Senior Portfolio Manager with the equity investment team. He serves on the firm’s management team as President and serves as a board member. Mike is a member of the firm’s portfolio management team, focusing on equities, and he manages equity research activities. He has twenty-four years of experience working as a portfolio manager at a number of Boston-based firms, such as Loomis Sayles and Columbia Asset Management, where he managed approximately $700 million of assets for foundations, endowments, faith-based organizations, corporate retirement systems, and individuals. Working as a CPA, Mike conducted audits for companies and assisted individuals in tax planning, estate planning, and financial planning.

Mike is a member of the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) research team, which evaluates current and potential portfolio investments. The team also ensures that each investment adheres to our clients’ needs and values.

Mike studied economics and history at Washington University in St. Louis and earned a Master of Business Administration degree, as well as a Master of Science degree in Accounting from Northeastern University. He has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst and the Certified Public Accountant designations. Mike is a member of the CFA Society Boston, the CFA Institute, and served on the CFA Society Boston Wealth Management Committee.

Mike served as the treasurer and executive board member for the United States Tennis Association of New England. In addition, he headed the finance committee and was a member of the Investment Committee and Schools Committee. Mike served as a board member and treasurer of the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce. He was a founding member and the first president of the Boston Chapter for the National Society of Hispanic MBAs. In Newton, he served as a board member and Tennis Chairman of the Neighborhood Club. He volunteered as a math tutor for students involved in the Year Up Program in Boston and coached for Newton Girls Soccer.
